how i use human design in my sessions

What I find human design (HD) most useful for on a practical level is that it answers many of the ‘how’ questions that people often encounter. (Just know that I am not about to get super technical in this post — for more info on what exactly HD is, there are a TON of resources out there at your googling finger tips.)

For example:

How does your energy + aura work?

Why does this matter? Well, according to HD, our energy type influences the way that we move and interact with people, things and places in this world. Think of all of us humans as one big orchestra — we each have our role and our own instrument to play, and while we can improvise the way we play our instruments, add our own flair and choose to dress it up any way we want, we’re still pretty much stuck playing this one instrument we have (at least for this lifetime!). So why not learn what exactly that instrument is and how to play it?

To me, this has therapeutic value as it reduces friction and frustration — HD simply offers another way of conceptualizing the human experience, just like how different psychological theories offer ways of describing your mental processes: it allows you to experiment specifically with the way you’re designed in order to see how it works for you. It’s simply a theoretical framework to play with that’s non-stigmatizing, non-pathologizing, and very humanizing.

For example, as a Mental Projector, I’m constantly testing out what it means to wait for an invitation; what it means to have environmental/no inner authority (trial and error and having a playful relationship with the Universe). Knowing this has drastically cut down confusion, frustration and self-judgement in terms of the timing of things, knowing that I can’t force anything; knowing the importance of developing a relationship with the Divine, with All-There-Is…

When do I incorporate HD in sessions?

I’m most likely to bring HD in when a client brings up topics related to work, entrepreneurship, general confusion about why something isn’t working; or simply as validation for the way your energy levels may ebb and flow. This is the part where openness to learning a little bit about your energy type and being open with experimenting with it may result in increased self-knowledge, and ideally, more self-compassion.

Knowing that there’s nothing wrong with you for not being able to conform to a 9-5 corporate culture; or why you’re frazzled and exhausted; why you seem to ‘give up too quickly’; why you ‘need so much rest’ can be immensely validating. You can finally stop pushing against yourself, and allow yourself to just be…And to me, that’s always the most beautiful and rewarding part of helping validate what you’ve known within yourself, all along.
