are you going through your saturn return?

The culmination of your (often turbulent) 20’s — the Saturn Return.

What is a Saturn return?

A Saturn return happens when Saturn returns to the same position in the sky as it was when you were born, taking about 28 years to orbit the Sun.

In astrological terms, it's a period of transition and personal growth that can last for about three years. You may feel the influence of this transit from age 27 to 31.

Saturn’s message

Planets represent our inner processes. Saturn symbolizes the part of us that is capable of taking responsibility, of developing wisdom, of putting in the time, and doing the work to put things into order. Have you ever heard of the term ‘Chop wood, carry water’? — it’s the part of us that exerts pressure and discipline to get the job done, to create structures and bring things into form.

Saturn says: Earthly time is finite, you only have this one lifetime, when are you going to act on what feels true to you, that speaks to your Soul? Are you willing to do what it takes to face up to adulthood? It’s time to choose. Let go of what no longer serves you. Are you willing to put in the work to overcome these challenges? Here are things you’ve been avoiding. No more time for excuses, it’s time to buckle down. The time is now!

Let’s get real: How to navigate your Saturn return

  1. Know that it isn’t necessarily meant to feel easy. I find that even having this knowledge alone can be helpful — when Saturn knocks on your door, having a sense of pressure, heaviness, seriousness or just the grind of work can be expected. But it also doesn’t have to be harder than it needs to be! Once you face the challenges head-on, the pressures will ease up. The more you ignore or resist the challenges presenting themselves to you, the more the pain and discomfort will persist.

  2. An opportunity to rewire your relationship to work. Your attitude determines how this transit feels. An empowering approach: here’s my chance to make my dreams real; here’s my opportunity to build a real sense of security; accepting the challenge of putting in effort can show you the value of meaningful work. Acting from a place of radical responsibility & choosing to take ownership of your situation and how you respond to it will result in satisfying rewards once the journey wraps up in about 2.5 years. Remember: No one is coming to save me, I am my own hero.

  3. This is happening for you, not to you. Accepting that we have a Soul Journey and that on some level, we set up these challenges for our Soul growth. We are here to move towards our potential, and in Earth School, one way to do so is through experiencing challenges, friction and conflict. The sooner we accept this as the norm, the easier it becomes to see the gifts that are inherent in every challenge. (Although it’s pretty normal to not be able to see what the gift is at all while we’re still just trying to get through a storm!)
